COMBINED COMBATIVES TACTICAL SYSTEM

System History: The Evolution of the Combined Combatives Tactical System

The Combined Combatives Tactical System is the result of over four decades of dedicated training, research, and real-world application in martial arts, self-defense, and defensive tactics. Developed through extensive experience in both traditional and modern combat disciplines, this system integrates the most effective principles of movement, human physiology, and tactical application.

The journey began in the late 1970s with foundational training in boxing and Tae Kwon Do, later expanding into Hapkido in the early 1980s. Over the years, continuous study and hands-on experience revealed that while different martial arts and defensive tactics have their distinctions, they share fundamental commonalities rooted in athletic movement and human mechanics.

Extensive training alongside elite instructors further refined the system’s approach. Influences include Isshin Ryu experts Ken Graham and Ken Richardson, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Carlos Machado, and Tuhon Erwin Ballarta and Sal Morales in Filipino martial arts and edged weapon tactics. Additional expertise was gained from Thai Boxing, Krav Maga, combative firearms, and law enforcement-focused disciplines, working with industry leaders such as Sonny Lynch of the National Law Enforcement Training Center, Rick Smith of Taser International, and Daryell Harmon of ASP Baton.

With over 35 years in law enforcement, the system’s creator has served in various roles, from patrol to administration, and as a lead law enforcement trainer and training director for Tony Blauer’s SPEAR System. This experience, combined with certifications in defensive tactics, use of force, and physical fitness for law enforcement and SWAT, has shaped a training methodology that is both effective and adaptable.

The system’s evolution is further supported by extensive experience in coaching powerlifting and training athletes in multiple sports, producing state, national, and world record holders. This deep understanding of human biomechanics and skill development directly informs the tactics and techniques used in the system.

Today, the Combined Combatives Tactical System stands as a comprehensive, battle-tested approach to self-defense and tactical training. Every technique is carefully selected, rigorously tested, and continuously evaluated for real-world effectiveness. The system has been successfully applied in law enforcement, executive protection, and defensive tactics instruction, with components published in professional journals and presented at industry conferences.

Driven by ongoing research and a commitment to practical, results-oriented training, the Combined Combatives Tactical System ensures that every tactic taught is functional, adaptable, and proven in real-world scenarios.
